College and Alumni Testimonials

See what the top NW college programs and PBC alumni are saying about their experiences with Portland Baseball Club

“We have had several players whom have played for Coach Neffendorf’s summer teams over the past several years and have found that these young men are prepared to play for our program when entering Oregon State University. Coach Neffendorf and his staff  do an outstanding job teaching baseball fundamentals. They are, year in and year out, the best summer program in the State of Oregon. Your son will not only learn the game of baseball, he will also have a great opportunity to play on a national forum as Coach Neffendorf’s teams have won a World Series in 2008 and finished 2nd in 2010. If I had a son, I would want him to play in the summer time for Coach Neffendorf.” - Pat Bailey, Oregon State University, Assistant Coach

“Portland Baseball Club under Coach Neffendorf’s guidance has proved to be one of the top summer programs in the Northwest. As a college coach we are always looking for players who play in winning programs.  The Portland Baseball Club prepares its players for college, push each individual to improve their game and instill a team first mentality. These are the qualities that we strive to fill our roster with each and every year. I look forward to following Portland Baseball Club and continue recruiting players from their program.” –Spencer Allen, Recruiting Coordinator, Washington State University

"Brad Neffendorf and Portland Baseball Club s is one of the best in the northwest. His players are fundametally sound and he gets them ready for the next level. It is a pleasure to recruit his club during the summer!" - Donny Harrel, Seattle University Head Coach

“The Portland Baseball Club has continued to impress me on a yearly basis. The players consistently enter college with a good feel for the game and we know they are taught by brilliant tacticians of baseball. It goes without saying that we take an extra close look at a player if he’s a member of The Portland Baseball Club.” – Jake McKinley, Assistant Baseball Coach, Sacramento State University

"I want to thank you for the opportunity that Chad had to play for your organization this summer. At the conclusion of what turned out to be a very successful season for the 2010 team, Chad informed me that it was one of his best baseball experiences that he has been a part of. The opportunity to play with the top baseball talent from the surrounding Portland Metro area not only helped him as a player but also created friendships and contacts that should last throughout his baseball career and beyond. Chad was given a great opportunity and he made the most of it.

As you know, Chad was recruited from some smaller colleges out of high school, but I feel his ability to play with and surround himself with other talented baseball players this summer opened some additional doors to college programs that may have overlooked him these past years. Chad was exposed to college programs as well as professional scouts through PBC’s scheduling of games with many of the top elite teams from the Pacific Northwest. He will now be part of a Division 1 baseball program at an excellent academic school. I believe that this was made possible through his association with the Portland Baseball Club this summer.

As a spectator, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this team play.  They were well coached and I was extremely impressed with the competitive schedule of teams and tournaments that PBC had the opportunity to play.  Also, the travel schedule was well planned but not extensive. I was very impressed with the way the players came together and the cohesiveness that emerged as the summer season progressed. I can honestly say that I was sad to see the season come to an end. It was a great group of players to watch play the game of baseball and their skills and dedication took them a very long way. They definitely were well prepared to compete against any team they faced and to play their way to the Babe Ruth World Series Championship game. It will be a summer season that most of the players and parents will never forget." - Mike Kjemhus, Parent of 2010 18U player Chad Kjemhus

"I wanted to thank Portland Baseball Club for the professionalism of your program. Brad Neffendorf and the coaches were very committed to the team and were also instrumental in getting Riley scholarship offers with Washington State, University of Portland, and Oregon State (whom he verbally committed). They were also committed to the players health and well being, never allowing them overdo it and risk further injury." - Kermit & Kris Wilkerson, Parents of 2010 18U player Riley Wilkerson

"Thank you for Portland Baseball Club.  It is truly a wonderful organization.  Jeff and I have been very  thankful that Mark had a competitive and fun team to play on this summer.  We shutter to think what mischief he would have gotten into without PBC!" - Jeff & Linda Lambson, Parents of 2010 18U player Mark Lambson

"Our son, Conner, looked forward to playing on the 2010 18U PBC summer team throughout his senior year of high school.  He was anxious to play an entire season with all of these talented ball players from the Portland Metro area.  They were a fantastic group of boys who bonded quickly and achieved great success.  We feel that the PBC coaching staff did a great job of preparing Conner for his transition from high school baseball to the Division I arena.  The team was extremely organized, disciplined, and structured.  The team faced a lot of strong competition, and Conner grew enormously as a player.  He had a wonderful summer playing the game he loves with the players he respects and admires.  We were all very sad to say goodbye to the boys and their families.  It was a wonderful experience." - Steve and Jennifer George, Parents of 2010 18U player Conner George

"Austin joined PBC’s 14U team in December 2008 as a 13 year old.  We were looking for a program that would take his all around game to the next level.  Austin’s goal was to play High School ball and the local community programs could not provide the individual, depth and high level of instruction we were looking for.  We found it with PBC.  Through the personal and team instruction of Joe Taylor and Chris Webb Austin’s game flourished.

As a 15 year old today Austin has completed his first year of Spring and Summer High School ball.  Austin’s growth as a person and as a player continues to grow under the instruction at PBC.  Austin will play fall ball with PBC and looks forward to working hard with the PBC staff during the off season in preparation for his sophomore year in High School." - Scott Hunsdon, Parent of 2009, 2010 14U player Austin Hunsdon

Joe Taylor and Portland Baseball Club have provided our son, Dutton, with immeasurable growth in baseball. Not only does Joe provide excellent instruction, he provides much more than just skills. Although Dutton improved with his physical abilities, the mental side of the game is where he really learned a lot. Joe teaches young men to play the game the right way and that hard work really does pay off. After 2 seasons playing on the 14U team, Dutton is definitely prepared for high school baseball. He has been able to work out, and play with, high school players, which has given him the confidence on the field to play with anybody. If you are looking for a program that offers excellent instruction, extremely reasonably priced and want your son to learn how to play the game the right way, then Portland Baseball Club should be your first choice. Once your son comes out of PBC, he will be better prepared for baseball at the next level than most "rec" or other club players.  Thank you Joe and PBC for helping Dutton become the ball player he is today. - Stephen and JJ Elske

I played for Coach Joe Taylor's 14U team for two years. Coach Taylor and Portland Baseball Club taught me how to play the game, how to respect the game, and how to hustle when I do anything baseball related and play the game as hard as I can. PBC taught me the game inside and out, so I know how to strategize any baseball situation I find myself in. With PBC's in-depth and rigorous practices, I learned how to play every position on the field. Overall, playing for PBC those two years was a very fun experience, and those two years of hard work groomed me quite well for high school ball, as I went on to be a four year letterman. I came into high school ahead of the game, and I owe my preparedness primarily to PBC and Coach Taylor, and the skills will serve me in college ball as well. GO PURPLE! - Luke Ehli, Oregon City High School

Before I moved to Portland I lived in Texas. There I played daddy baseball. Dads were always the coaches and then when you would practice the dad, with hardly any experience at all, would try and teach you their way instead of the right way. So I became an average player good enough to play in the little league all-star tournament. Had I gone to high school then and tried out I would have been booted due to a lot of my bad habits. Then I moved to Portland and I was looking for a baseball team to play on. I found PBC were the coaches had experience and wanted to work with me and help me individual as a player. When I finished PBC and went on to play Baseball for Wilson high school I was prepared physically and mentally. I was able to work hard at everything and had a mental mind set of I am going to get that position and beat everyone who challenges me and it worked. I am now a JV player as a second baseman and a pitcher with expectations to swing up to varsity level and be on varsity by junior year. PBC gave me a great opportunity to excel much farther in baseball. I want to play for college and I will carry PBC with me all the way. - Jay Howell, Wilson High School

“Portland Baseball Club and their coaches do an outstanding job of player development and promotion. I have known many of their coaches for years and have a tremendous working relationship with them. They are not only good coaches but first-rate people. We actively recruit their players because we know they are talented, but also well-prepared and high-character kids. PBC is a big-time organization, to be sure.” - Lower Columbia College
