Joe grew up in the Seattle area playing select baseball from the time he turned 14. At age 14, Joe was selected to play for the Horrocks Brewers (now the RIPS Brewers) and coach Aaron Horrocks. The Brewers were one of the top Sandy Koufax 14U teams in the Northwest. Joe lead the team hitting .438 with 10 doubles and 23 rbi. On the mound, he had a 5-2 record in 41 innings pitched and a 1.69 era.
Joe started his high school career at Mt. Rainier HS in Des Moines, WA where he was the starting varsity shortstop and a starting pitcher his sophomore year. After moving to Maple Valley, WA, Joe transfered to Tahoma HS and competed against the top teams in the SPSL from Kent, Auburn, and Enumclaw. Playing against many Division 1 and future MLB draft prospects, Joe earned all league honors.
During the summer seasons, Joe played for the Auburn Knights select team under coach Jim Sugarbaker. Joe played for the Knights his Sophomore through Senior years. He was a starting middle infielder and pitcher. |
After high school, Joe played one year at Green River Community College in Auburn, WA as a middle infielder before transfering to Lewis & Clark College in Portland. At Lewis & Clark, Joe primarily pitched after a back injury limited infield time. Joe led the team in appearances all 3 years on the mound and was named Pitcher of the Week in 2002 after throwing a complete game shutout against Pacific University.
After college, Joe worked as the General Manager of NW Star Academy. From starting teams at the high school, college, and 14u levels to building a fall baseball league, Joe helped grow NW Star over the course of 6 years. The NW Star experience culminated with winning hte 2008 Babe Ruth World Series Championship in Newark, Ohio. In 2005, Joe started providing private baseball instruction at his former SE Portland facility.
In 2008, Joe started Portland Baseball Club and in 2010 opened up the PBC Indoor Training Facility in Tigard. Joe is the primary instructor providing lessons for players of all ages in hitting, pitching, fielding, catching, speed and agility, and coaching seminars. Joe coached the PBC 14U team in 2009 and 2010 and is the PBC 18U Babe Ruth Head Coach in 2011.
